Aquarium Supplies on the Gold Coast
Gallery Aquatica is a reef and freshwater aquarium store in Tingalpa, Brisbane, and we ship aquarium gear down to the Gold Coast. We are in the same state, just up the motorway, so the whole dry-goods range comes to you, and the local water has a couple of features worth knowing before you fill a tank.
What Gold Coast tap water means for your tank
Gold Coast water, supplied by Seqwater, is very soft. Hardness sits down around 34 milligrams per litre with low total dissolved solids, which is some of the softest mains water in South East Queensland. Two things stand out for a fishkeeper. The pH runs low, around 6.2, which is on the acidic side, and the supply is disinfected with chloramine rather than plain chlorine.
Chloramine is the one to plan for. It does not gas off if you leave a bucket to stand the way plain chlorine does, and a basic dechlorinator is not always enough, so you want a conditioner rated specifically for chloramine, or catalytic carbon in an RO/DI line that is made to handle it. On the plus side, soft, low-mineral water suits planted tanks, shrimp and soft-water community fish beautifully. The flip side is that soft, low-buffer water gives you little to hold pH steady, so a reef tank or any hard-water species needs minerals and alkalinity built back up rather than stripped down.
The gear that suits Gold Coast water
- A water conditioner rated for chloramine, since chloramine will not simply air off.
- An RO/DI setup with chloramine-capable carbon for a reef tank, taking full advantage of the low incoming mineral load.
- Buffers and supplements to lift alkalinity and hold pH, which soft local water will not do on its own.
- A test kit to keep an eye on that low starting pH and your hardness targets.

The Gold Coast is in our home state, so dry goods travel with Australia Post or Aramex and livestock is fully available, with fish handled Airport to Airport by arrangement and Queensland carrying none of the interstate algae or snail restrictions. We usually dispatch within seven business days of full payment and often sooner, and once a parcel is with the courier the delivery time is theirs, so we do not promise a day. Detail is on our freighting and packing page, and everywhere we deliver is on the Australia-wide shipping page. If you would rather collect in person, the shop is in Tingalpa, about an hour north.

Does chloramine matter on the Gold Coast?
Yes. Chloramine does not gas off by letting water stand the way plain chlorine does, so use a conditioner rated for chloramine, or chloramine-capable carbon in an RO/DI line.
