Hard-water species will tolerate the tap, but anything sensitive is better off on a controlled, purified base you build yourself.

Which treatment plant feeds you also matters

Metro Adelaide is supplied through several treatment plants, and they do not deliver the same water. Anstey Hill, Hope Valley, Happy Valley, Myponga and Barossa each serve their own set of suburbs, and the differences show up clearly at the tap.
